Established in 2018, Lightcycle SA NPC is a non-profit Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO). Lightcycle SA exists to organise the nationwide collection of waste lamps, lighting equipment, as well as electrical and electronic equipment, and all associated packaging in South Africa, and to responsibly manage these end-of-life products in line with our Producer Members’ regulatory obligations.
Manufacturers, importers, and brand owners (Producers) can thus meet the legal requirements in terms of the mandatory EPR regulatory legislation created under NEMWA’s Section 18 published and implementable on 05 May 2021, including the specific sector notices. Lightcycle SA’s Producers will be part of a scheme that ensures their compliance and that is both ecologically and economically sustainable.
Lightcycle SA's objective is to promote the compliant and environmentally sound management, via an efficient take-back scheme, of the regulated identified products on behalf of its Producer Members in accordance with the requirements as detailed in the EPR Regulations throughout South Africa.
The founding members of Lightcycle SA NPC are Osram, Ledvance, Voltex, Eurolux, Radiant Lighting, Beka Schréder, and IESSA, acting on behalf of the Sectors’ commitment and support for environmentally sound management of the identified Products, and towards a positive contribution to the circular economy.
The vision of Lightcycle SA NPC is to directly contribute through the nature of its work and planned projects to the Global Sustainable Development Goals.
The mission of Lightcycle SA NPC is to establish and facilitate on behalf of all its Producers of lamps, lighting equipment, electronic and electrical equipment and associated packaging, an environmentally sound and efficient take-back scheme for the identified products within South Africa, and as part of the products’ life cycle.
This will be achieved through Lightcycle SA’s environmental and social targets, sustainable practices, and governance, applying best practice principles.
